Upper School - Gradutation Requirements

There are minimum requirements at every grade level and for graduation, but the overwhelming majority of students are focused on maximums not minimums. Students earn 5 ½ credits per year for a total of 22 credits for graduation as an absolute minimum. The average Doane Academy graduate earns 6.25 credits per year and graduates with 25 credits. The departmental requirements during the transcript years (9-12) include:

English 5 credits
Mathematics* 3 credits (including at least Algebra II)
History/Social studies 3 credits (including at least 2 credits in U.S. History)
Modern/Classical Language** 2 credits (including level III as a minimum)
Science 3 credits (including biology and chemistry)
World Religion/Ethics 1 credit
Fine/Performing Arts 2 credits
Computer Science 1 credit or proficiency
Physical Education (No credit/pass-fail requirement achieved through participation in extra curricular athletics)
   
* 3 credits in Math are required in grades 9-12. For some students this will
   include coursework beyond Algebra II as a minimum requirement.
** 2 credits in modern/classical language are required in grades 9-12, with
     mastery at level 3.

High school coursework (Math, foreign language, performing arts, etc.) taken in 7th and 8th grade is included on the high school transcript, but does not satisfy the minimum departmental or graduation requirements.
