Community
Service and Outreach
KICS (Kids In Community Service) was created as part of Doane Academy’s commitment to its Episcopal tradition and the belief that one grows in service to others. KICS provides an arena for students to learn about themselves while learning the importance of helping others. Both Upper and Lower School students share and discover their interests and talents with others through numerous community service opportunities. They learn that an action, no matter how small, can be significant; from collecting mittens for a mitten tree during the winter holidays to hammering in nails on a house for Habitat for Humanity—it all matters. All community service opportunities serve the same purpose in teaching our students lessons about humility, compassion, patience, understanding, and the joy of giving. To date there is no required participation for graduation. Our hope is that through volunteering, students will gain a sense of maturity, responsibility, and acquire a life-long commitment to service to others. Currently 95% of our students participate in KICS-sponsored community service projects.
