October 1, 2009 CANINE COMPANIONS FOR A CANINE COMPANION
Mrs. Harris’ 1st graders took it to heart when Doane’s Canine Companion in training, Mr. Halstead, showed up last week with a cast on his leg. Halstead gratefully received all of their get well cards. He is expected to fully recover, especially given all the TLC from his 12 good friends in 1st grade. Mr. Halstead is dog number 3 out of the five dogs that have been or are being trained as service dogs for Canine Companions (CCI), Long Island, N.Y. The Headmaster, Mr. McGee and his wife, Alice, are Halstead’s trainers. Other trainers include the number 1 CCI promoter, Rickie Robinson and her family and Mrs. Bell and her daughter, Rachel. All of the dogs have been a wonderful addition to life at Doane and another example of school’s commitment to service.
