Student Life

From clubs and organizations to traditions and chapel services, there is much to engage and challenge students outside class. This section gives you a preview.

St Mary's Hall-Doane Academy boys after classSchool families
Twelve separate families, each made up of students from all grade levels, meet on Thursdays with faculty members who serve as school family advocates.
The school family is a safe, caring, and supportive environment. Whether it's through a community service project, a celebration of a holiday or birthday, or an athletic or academic challenge among the families, students come to work together and depend upon one another. They become comfortable and encouraging of each other.

Chapel
Ethics, spiritual maturity, character and leadership development are promoted and sustained in chapel services and in the culture and climate of our classrooms and hallways.Interior of the Chapel of the Holy Innocents, St Mary's Hall  Monday morning chapel brings the school community together for the Headmaster's message and a celebration of student achievements. Scripture readings, prayers, and hymns in the Judeo-Christian tradition inspire students of all faiths. The chaplain offers an inspirational message to Upper School students in Tuesday’s chapel and to Lower School students in Wednesday’s chapel services.

The Chapel of the Holy Innocents (its full and formal name), was consecrated in 1847 and is one of the earliest church buildings in the United States constructed in the English Gothic style. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized as an architectural gem.

Clubs and organizations
Students are invited and encouraged to participate, lead, and excel in a range of activities that stretch them beyond their previous experience. Clubs and activities include Student Council, class government, Doane ambassadors, yearbook, drama club, choir and band, to mention a few. St Mary's girls singing at a concert.

Our Mock Trial Team advanced to the county semi-finals in the region for the 2002-2003 school year. Several students participated in the Burlington County Teen Arts Festival, in both fine and performing arts, and winning awards for artwork and advancing to the All State Women’s Chorus.

Traditions through the year
Members of the senior class arrive for the first day of school via canoes on the Delaware River. In the fall, we celebrate Spirit Week and Homecoming. At Halloween, Doane’s Dungeon gives a literary twist to the traditional haunted house. The senior class heads off for their class trip in November and in December, our Christmas Mystery program is a long-standing tradition treasured by all.

The spring brings the Interim program which offers students a variety of real-world activities to explore. To make the spring Drama Club production a success — whether we’re staging Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing or a modern drama — we count on a team of talented students to help.

At the end of each school year, Class Night festivities and Commencement are rich in tradition; we celebrate personally the significance of each graduate.
